Course Planning

Final version will be announced after the semester begins

New Students (admitted in Academic Year 114)

  1. Within the first three semesters after enrollment (i.e., the first academic year, 1st and 2nd semesters, plus the 1st semester of the second year), students must complete 18 credits of Chinese language courses.
  2. Students who already have prior knowledge of Chinese before enrollment may present transcripts or choose to take a placement test at the Chinese Language Center.
  3. Students who achieve TOCFL Level 2 (Basic), equivalent to CEFR A2, may be exempted from 12 credits of Chinese language courses.
  4. Students who achieve TOCFL Level 3 (Intermediate), equivalent to CEFR B1, may be exempted from 14 credits of Chinese language courses.
  5. During study, students who later achieve TOCFL Level 2 (CEFR A2) or Level 3 (CEFR B1) may apply at the Chinese Language Center with their official transcript for exemption of 12 or 14 credits respectively.

Current Students (admitted before Academic Year 114)

  1. Non-Taiwanese graduate students (excluding dual-degree students, overseas compatriot students, and students from Mainland China) are required to complete 6 credits of Chinese language courses during their study in order to graduate.
  2. Eligible students may apply for exemption by submitting relevant certificates or transcripts under the following conditions:
    1. Students who graduated from NTOU’s undergraduate or master’s program, and during that study period have already completed at least 6 credits of Chinese language courses at NTOU.
    2. Graduate students (master’s or doctoral) who did not graduate from NTOU, but who possess certification of Chinese proficiency equivalent to CEFR B2 or above (according to the equivalency standards set by the Steering Committee for the Test of Proficiency-Huayu, SC-TOP).

Restrictions on Exemption of Language and Culture Courses

  1. Students who qualify under Condition (2) may apply for exemption, which upon review and approval by the Chinese Language Center, may substitute up to 3 credits of Chinese language or culture courses offered by the Center.
  2. Exempted credits must not overlap with credits already counted toward undergraduate or graduate program graduation requirements.
  3. Each student may apply for exemption only once.
  4. Courses already exempted may not be taken again. If repeated, the credits earned will not count toward graduation requirements.
